About Us

Founded in 1852, GSC is a member of the University System of Georgia. The college has a distinctive legacy of excellent scholarship and service. GSC offers nearly 30 degrees, which includes multiple associate and baccalaureate pathways for students. With an enrollment of over 3,100 students, GSC offers an intimate academic setting with state‑of‑the‑art classrooms and laboratories. In this setting, students receive individualized attention that only a small college with dedicated faculty and staff can provide.

Job Summary

The Student Assistant will assist in the main office of the McDonough Campus.

Responsibilities
  • Performs administrative work as needed and directed.
  • Assists with social media marketing for the McDonough Center.
  • Assists with record‑keeping and data entry as needed and directed.
  • Answers general questions from students and faculty about computer/software use.
  • Opens and locks classrooms and other college areas.
  • Serves as the central receptionist for the McDonough Center by assisting walk‑in traffic and answering/directing phone calls.
  • Monitors student activity in the College Center at the McDonough Center.
  • Receives and routes items to appropriate faculty/staff.
  • Assists Program Administrator and Academic Aide with copying, printing, collating, assembling, mailing, or e‑mailing of handbooks, manuals and evaluation packets as needed.
  • Maintains an official and friendly presence at the McDonough Center.
  • Assists occasionally at recruitment or promotional events.
  • Maintains cleanliness of supplies & classroom equipment.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the AVPIESI, Program Administrator, or Academic Aide.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be eligible for Federal Work Study (see financial aid before applying).
  • Must be enrolled in at least six (6) academic credit hours.
  • Must possess professional appearance/manner.
  • Must be knowledgeable in Keyboarding, MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours on Mondays‑Thursdays.
  • Must possess good customer service skills, as well as effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must follow college rules and regulations.
