About Us

Job Summary
This part-time position is the principal operations manager of the Gordon Georgia Youth Science & Technology Center at Gordon State College. The position reports to the State GYSTC Executive Director as well as a Gordon State College official selected by the President. This individual shall oversee all operations of the program and deliver professional development in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects for kindergarten-eighth grade teachers in central Georgia as directed by the State Executive Director to include the School Systems in the counties of Butts, Crawford, Lamar, Monroe, Pike, Thomaston-Upson, as well as other surrounding areas as interest is expressed.
In addition, this individual will provide hands-on and inquiry-based activities for students in grades K-8th. These activities include virtual and traditional in-class field trips, Family Nights, and camps.
Responsibilities
Plan, manage, and oversee program operations for the school systems served by the center.
Develop and conduct research-based professional learning.
Coordinate and provide student programming.
Offer STEM technical assistance to local school system personnel.
Manage center operations within the budget.
Communicate effectively and regularly to all stakeholders and districts.
Disseminate pertinent science education information to all districts.
Some evening and weekend work is required based on events.
Travel to school systems is required with some regional and conference travel.
Required Qualifications
Master
¿ s degree in education, science, or related field.
Valid GA Teaching Certificate.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in K-8 science and/or math education.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated success in relationship building.
Demonstrated success in current science curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Strong knowledge of best practices in leadership, planning/organization, and standards-based instruction and pedagogy.
Strong knowledge of data analysis.
Strong knowledge of science content domains.
Knowledge of current Georgia K-12 Science and Mathematics Standards.
Ability to function independently and to initiate, manage, and evaluate a variety of programs and activities is required.
