With an enrollment of over 3,100 students, GSC offers an intimate academic setting with state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories. In this setting, students receive individualized attention that only a small college with dedicated faculty and staff can provide.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Workforce Development, this position is responsible for providing academic advising to students, assisting them in selecting a degree program, and guiding them through a clearly defined course sequence aligned with their degree pathway toward graduation. The Academic Advisor II role involves an elevated level of advising responsibilities, a broader scope of job knowledge, and/or newly assigned duties within the advising function.

Responsibilities Academic Advising & Student Support (60%)
  • Provide individualized academic advising to a caseload of students, assisting with course selection, degree planning, and academic goal setting.
  • Monitor student progress using institutional tools and data (e.g., GPA, alerts, attendance, and risk indicators) to identify and support at‑risk students.
  • Deliver proactive outreach and timely interventions to promote retention and academic success.
  • Maintain accurate and timely advising records in institutional systems.
  • Assist students with registration processes, including course selection and schedule adjustments.
  • Provide responsive, student‑centered service by addressing inquiries in a timely and professional manner and ensuring students receive clear, accurate guidance.
Workshops, Outreach, & Student Engagement (15%)
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate workshops on academic success, registration, time management, and related topics.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to co‑develop and deliver workshops and student programming.
  • Participate in orientation, registration events, and other student success initiatives.
Collaboration & Coordinated Care (15%)
  • Work closely with faculty, tutoring services, academic coaches, and other support offices to provide coordinated care for students.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources and follow up as needed to ensure engagement.
  • Participate in academic standing reviews and collaborate on intervention strategies for students in academic difficulty.
  • Assist, when needed, with recruitment efforts both on and off campus.
  • Contribute to student success initiatives and retention efforts at the departmental and institutional level.
Administrative & Operational Responsibilities (10%)
  • Maintain knowledge of institutional policies, degree requirements, and academic programs.
  • Support departmental initiatives, special projects, and continuous improvement efforts.
Additional Responsibilities
  • This position coordinates and oversees tutoring services and embeds tutoring programs by recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising student tutors; collaborating with faculty and academic departments; promoting academic support resources; assessing program effectiveness; and ensuring accurate recordkeeping and compliance with institutional policies to support student success.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field.
  • Two years of professional academic advising experience or related academic functions within higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Academic tutoring experience

  • Demonstrates a broad knowledge of academic advising, strong skills in advising, and active participation in professional development.
