About Piedmont Green Power

Piedmont Green Power, LLC ("PGP") owns a 55MW biomass-fired generating facility located in Barnesville, Georgia, approximately 70 miles southeast of Atlanta. PGP commenced operations in 2013 and sells power to Georgia Power Company through a long‑term offtake contract. PGP utilizes approximately 500,000 tons of woody biomass annually, consisting of urban wood waste, mill, and logging residues. As of December 2023, PGP became fully owned by Pacolet Milliken, LLC.

Job Overview

Manages all aspects of the fuel supply for Piedmont Green Power, a 55 MW biomass-fired power plant. Responsible for the procurement, contract administration, cost, reporting, and quality of all biomass fuel coming into the power plant. Prudently manages the biomass fuels, keeps abreast of industry developments in the region, and develops and maintains strong relationships with suppliers. Oversees and manages all wood yard hours of operation at the power plant.

Uses a company‑provided vehicle and fuel card to perform job‑related duties and business travel.

Job Type: Full‑time Exempt

Schedule
  • Work schedule is primarily Monday through Friday with flexible hours to accommodate daily travel to supplier locations.
  • Requires approximately 75% travel, with early mornings, evenings, or extended workdays as needed to support operational requirements.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Oversees all aspects of fuel management from source identification to commercial arrangements, transportation arrangements, and fuel receipt.
  • Manages existing fuel yard inventory by following the Piedmont Green Power (PGP) Wood Fuel Procurement Plan.
  • Manages fuel cost of inventory by maintaining a large number of suppliers from the range of approved fuel sources.
  • Develops and implements a long‑term, day‑to‑day, and emergency fuel acquisition plan to secure fuel supplies.
  • Prudently manages storage of fuel by working collectively with other managers to ensure proper pile rotation is conducted to optimize fuel value.
  • Represents the company in the forestry/fiber community and ensures the company’s interests are represented and protected.
  • Administers fuel supply contracts and suppliers to ensure quality standards and supply amounts are met, invoicing is correct, and that the plant has adequate fuel supplies without paying premium prices.
  • Visits suppliers’ facilities to ensure quality and quantities can be met.
  • Keeps abreast of trends that might influence the quantity or cost of biomass received.
  • Cultivates new suppliers and looks for ‘opportunity’ suppliers to reduce fuel costs.
  • Evaluates and advises on strategies, structure changes, or process improvements to reduce fuel costs.
  • Develops and prepares monthly and annual reports for management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education /Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent with 2 years of experience in a forestry-related field.

- OR - Bachelor of Science degree in forestry, forest management, or forest resources.

Certifications & Licenses

Valid driver's license

Physical Requirements

Possess close visual acuity and acuity to operate machinery, motor vehicles, and computers. Have the ability to reach, stand, walk, grasp, kneel, talk, hear, stoop, and the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

Working Conditions

Subject to activities in a hot environment with noise levels where one may need to shout to be heard, hazards such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, work in high places, work in close quarters, and wear a respirator.
