Dining Room Assistant​/Cook

Job Summary

Recruit hardworking, enthusiastic individuals to join the Catering Team at Kendray Hospital. 1 x 20‑hour post on a rota basis, including weekends and bank holidays. Provide a safe, nutritious and exciting meal service to patients, staff and visitors and assist with preparation of functions and special events. Staff uniform is provided.

• Prepare and cook meals to required standards, adhering to Food Hygiene General Regulations 1995.
• Work as part of a kitchen team, prioritising and organising daily duties in a fast‑paced environment.
• Clean dining and kitchen areas to NHS cleaning standards, supporting hygiene schedules.
• Handle cash and clear away post‑meal areas, observing health and safety regulations.
• Assist with catering services across Trust sites as needed.
• Identify and resolve problems, providing guidance to colleagues where appropriate.

• Deliver meals to the required standard for patients, staff and visitors.
• Collaborate within the team to improve catering services.
• Support other areas of the department and Trust sites to maintain smooth service.
• Develop personal skills to meet departmental objectives.

• Ability to carry out duties of the post; satisfactory sickness record (2 years).
• Team working and initiative; good organisational and prioritisation skills.
• Effective communication with colleagues, Trust staff and patients.
• Knowledge of the HACCP system.
• Flexible attitude to working arrangements; friendly and outgoing personality.
• Ability to work at different locations.

• NVQ 6/1 & 2 or equivalent (or commitment to achieve).
  Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate or working towards.

• Demonstrable catering experience.
• Relevant team‑working experience.
• Experience dealing with customers.
• Desirable: experience in till operation.
