An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of Barnsley Council’s Street Lighting Team.

We require an individual to work in our Street Lighting division, maintaining and installing streetlights, illuminated signs and bollards across the borough. The candidate should be self‑motivated and will be required to:

• undertake general and specialist operational duties in all weathers which involve a wide range of physically and mentally demanding tasks;
• drive general and specialist vehicles and machines with or without trailers or attachments;
• be responsible for the careful day‑to‑day use, maintenance and security of vehicles, machinery and equipment;
• be customer focused and deal with exchanges of information in a polite, courteous and positive manner; respond to minor requests for service and report problems to the line manager;
• undertake fault diagnosis and on‑site assessments of the structural condition of street lighting equipment and report findings;
• respond to emergencies to secure damaged street lighting and electrical apparatus; standby payments and overtime rates apply;
• work under the guidance of the line manager and by personal initiative to deliver services to a professional standard within agreed procedures;
• follow agreed schedules and respond to new priorities as directed by the line manager to ensure deadlines are met;
• demonstrate safe working practices to other employees, apprentices, trainees and students where required;
• comply with current Health & Safety, Customer Care, Dignity at Work and other relevant legislation, policies and procedures at all times;
• undertake any duties commensurate with the post as requested by management.

• City & Guilds Electrical Level 3;
• City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing OR extensive equivalent experience;
• 1 8 th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations;
• G39 – Working on DNO apparatus OR extensive equivalent experience;
• CSCS / ECS card;
• IPAF or willing to achieve within 6 months of employment;
• Driving licence.

* to demonstrate comparative experience. If you do hold these qualifications, it is not necessary to demonstrate that you can meet the criteria marked with a *.
