Math Specialist beginning  SY

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Massachusetts Certi?cation in Elementary Mathematics preferred

* Approximately 5 years of classroom teaching appropriate to level of position.

* Such alternatives to the above quali?cations as the School Committee may ?nd appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:

Building Principal

JOB GOAL:
To help provide the kind of instruction and learning environment that will enable each student to master the mathematics skills appropriate to age, grade level and individual capacity.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meet the performance responsibility expectations of classroom teachers at appropriate grade levels.

Specialized Teaching Skills

* Administer diagnostic tests and evaluate math skills of new students and others referred by sta?.

* Analyze school math test scores.

* Work with classroom teachers and children in the school mathematics program.

* Provides direct consultative help and training to sta?.

* Outside the regular classroom, teach individuals and small groups of children not able to succeed in the regular classroom math program.

* Prepare and conduct in-service programs on math.

* Orient new teachers to the math program of the school and assist as necessary.

* Assist sta? in selecting and evaluating materials for math.

* Provide suggestions for enrichment programs in math for gifted/talented children.

* Meet with parents/guardians to discuss the school's math program.

* Keep abreast of new developments in math techniques, materials, and evaluation and inform sta?.

* Attend appropriate math workshops and conventions.

* Orient substitute teachers to school's math program and assist as necessary.

* Such other duties as assigned by Principal.
