POSITION:
Personal Care Teacher Assistant (PCTA)

JOB GOAL:
To assist the teacher in achieving educational objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the standards of instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 1. One year of college required; two years of college preferred.
• 2. Physical condition so as to be able to manage behaviour/physically challenged students; must have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
• 3. Basic understanding of child growth and development.
• 4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Principal may find appropriate or acceptable.

REPORTS TO:

Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 1. Demonstrate ethical behavior and maintain confidentiality of student information.
• 2. Current restraint program certification.
• 3. Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
• 4. Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
• 5. Implement student behavior plans.
• 6. Awareness of identified student health concerns, monitor/assist as appropriate in collaboration with teacher and nurse.
• 7. Toileting/personal care/hygiene, when necessary.
• 8. Awareness of student-assistance protocol.
• 9. Assist with collecting, maintaining, and organizing data and portfolios, and/or work samples of student(s).
• 10. Assist student(s) with organization of desk, homework, class work and materials.
• 11. When applicable, consult daily with teachers and other service providers.
• 12. Facilitate student(s) social interaction.
• 13. Other duties as assigned by the teacher or Principal.
