Job Description:

The Assistant Director of the Center for Community and Professional Education (CCAPE) serves as the operational backbone of the department, working closely alongside the Director/Chief Workforce Development Officer to lead day‑to‑day team operations, drive programmatic excellence, and ensure cohesive execution across CCAPE's full portfolio including open enrollment programs, career and technical trainings, employer contract training, apprenticeships, and other employer‑focused initiatives. This position bridges strategic vision and ground‑level implementation, ensuring that the team is supported, workflows are efficient, and programs are delivered with quality and impact.

The Assistant Director is a hands‑on leader who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, understands the full landscape of adult and continuing education, and brings both operational discipline and a relationship‑driven mindset to every aspect of the role. This individual provides direct supervisory oversight to the Senior Managers, Grant Manager, and Staff Assistants/Program Coordinators, ensuring accountability while empowering managers to lead their respective portfolios.

The Assistant Director supports staff in troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance outcomes for learners, employers, and community partners.

The Assistant Director plays a central role in building and maintaining the internal systems, workflows, and accountability structures that keep CCAPE operating at a high level, ensuring that priorities are clear, progress is tracked, and the team is aligned and resourced to deliver results.

Operations & Team Leadership

  • Support the Director/Chief Workforce Development Officer in managing the day‑to‑day operations of CCAPE, serving as the primary internal point of contact for staff questions, workflow coordination, and operational problem‑solving.
  • Partner with the Director/Chief Workforce Development Officer to translate departmental strategic goals and revenue targets into actionable team priorities, directing and supporting staff in their execution and monitoring progress across all functional areas to ensure milestones and targets are met.
  • Provide direct supervisory oversight to the Senior Managers, Grant Manager and Staff Assistants/Program Coordinators, offering coaching, performance feedback, workload support, and professional development.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings, manage staff workloads, and ensure accountability across all functional areas including open enrollment programs, career and technical trainings, employer contract training, and special programs.
  • Serve as acting lead for CCAPE operations in the absence of the Director/Chief Workforce Development Officer.
  • Assist in the onboarding and ongoing support of CCAPE staff assistants/program coordinators, instructors, and part‑time staff.
  • Promote a positive, supportive, and mission‑driven work environment that advances service excellence and staff retention.
  • Provide supervisory oversight and strategic support to the Senior Manager of Employer Engagement and Workforce Partnerships, monitoring progress toward revenue targets, partnership goals, and program quality benchmarks are met.
  • Provide guidance and operational support to the Senior Manager to advance CCAPE's private employer engagement strategy, from prospecting and relationship‑building to contract execution and program delivery.
  • Provide strategic oversight and ensure alignment of apprenticeship programs and other employer‑sponsored workforce initiatives, ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal guidelines.
  • Support the identification and pursuit of employer‑facing funding opportunities including the Workforce Training Fund Program, Workforce Incentive Fund, and other state, federal, and private sources.
