Job Title
Operations Mechanic
Purpose of PositionTo work cooperatively and communicate politely with Department Heads, Employees, patients, visitors, and other personnel to operate, repair, install, clean, modify, troubleshoot, evaluate, safety test and maintain the hospital’s heating, cooling and ventilating systems. Provides support for the operation and maintenance of other mechanical and life safety systems that are important in the day to day functions of the hospital.
Responsibilities- Operate, troubleshoot, repair, plan, install, modify, evaluate and maintain heating, cooling, pneumatic & electronic controls and ventilation equipment, e.g., rooftop HVAC units, chillers (gas, electric) & (air and water cooled), building exhaust systems, boilers, etc.
- Understand and oversee hospital life safety systems when needed (fire alarm, sprinkler protection, medical gases, isolation rooms, positive pressure rooms).
- Apply current engineering practices using City, State, Federal and JCAHO codes, standards and safety practices to develop, install and maintain hospital equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance, safety checks and inspections on systems in accordance with department and Hospital guidelines and procedures (such as infection control), and repair equipment promptly.
- Ensure the DDC building management system is properly monitored and controls hospital’s environmental systems for safety and comfort.
- Maintain established departmental procedures, quality assurance, infection control and safety policies and participate in educational programs and in‑service meetings.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Communicate efficiently via e‑mail and the hospitals Meditech system.
- Perform other work related duties as requested or assigned.

- High school graduate or GED required.
- Good physical and mental health.
- Minimum 5 years experience in installation and maintenance of commercial/industrial HVAC.
- 2 years experience using building environmental management systems such as Johnson, Siemens or Honeywell systems.
- Good understanding of boilers and steam plants.
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license required.
All Grade 14 qualifications plus:
- Those who possess or obtain a Massachusetts trade license in the field of Electrician, Plumbing, Pipe fitter or Refrigeration are advanced to Grade 15.
40 Hours per week, rotating evenings, 3 p‑11 p, every other weekend & occasional holidays, shift rotation as needed. Sign‑On Bonus Eligible.
LocationCape Cod Hospital, Massachusetts – Hyannis
PayHourly: $23.06 – $41.88 per hour
Thepayrange displayed on each job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. This is not inclusive of the value of Cape Cod Healthcare’s benefits package (if applicable), which includes among other benefits, healthcare/dental/vision and retirement. For annual salaries this is based on full‑time employment.
