Maintenance Specialist I / Locksmith
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of commercial and residential carpentry practices.
- Knowledge of practices, procedures, materials, and tools of the locksmith trade (including key coding systems), or ability to learn within one year of hire.
- Knowledge and familiarity with local, state, and federal building, fire, and OSHA codes and regulations.
- Ability to use specialized hand and power tools.
- Ability to handle all routine and emergency maintenance and repairs of school buildings.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and projects and work with a minimum amount of supervision.
- Ability to maintain flexibility in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to perform indoors or outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations at night or on weekends.
- Possess a Massachusetts Driver's License and safe driving record.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, staff, faculty and the public.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Facilities may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports To:
Maintenance Specialist II/Locksmith, Director of Facilities, and Deputy Director of Facilities
Job Goal:
To keep and maintain school facilities in a safe and operational manner.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Maintenance and renovation projects of both a routine and special nature, working from verbal instructions and written work orders.
- Construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials working from verbal and written work orders.
- Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials using hand and power tools.
- Collaborate with established timelines and project milestones.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, following all safety regulations.
- Requisition maintenance materials, such as lumber, nails, window glass, etc.
- Maintain inventory.
- Responsible for, but not limited to, routine building maintenance to include glass replacement, repair and replace doors and hardware, carpentry needs, repair roofs, maintain flooring, small painting projects, repair siding and exterior envelopes of buildings. Install and joint compound sheet rock.
- Assist Maintenance Specialist II/Locksmith to identify, install, maintain, adjust, repair, fabricate, rebuild, and replace lock cylinders and locks including combinations, electronic, ADA approved locks and other institutional hardware. This includes working with specific key systems to eliminate duplication of keys.
- Install, adjust, maintain, and repair door hardware and related controls and equipment. Ensures building accessibility by making necessary adjustments, repairs, or replacement of failed components.
- Open locks when key, combination locks, or electronic locks are inoperable;
- Extract foreign objects from key holes.
- Ensure proper hardware, locks, and restrictive keyways are used; ensure compatibility with existing hardware on campus.
- Perform any other duties or responsibilities in keeping with the scope of their job as assigned by the Director of Facilities, Deputy Director of Facilities or designee.
