NJROTC Senior Naval Science Instructor

Quabbin Regional High School NJROTC is a nationally recognized Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors and is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and professional Certified Senior Naval Science Instructor who is committed to making a difference in the lives of high school students and the surrounding community. The position is a 12-month contract and is open as of 1 July 2026. Quabbin is centrally located in rural Barre, MA, just 20 miles northwest of Worcester.

Quabbin NJROTC enrollment is nearly double the required minimum, averaging 100 Cadets and 19% of high school enrollment. It has an active Drill, Color Guard, New Cadet, Air Rifle, and Drone Teams. Primary duties include program management, academic classroom instruction, drill and ceremonies, physical fitness, and guiding cadets through the college ROTC/Service Academy application process. Applicants must be willing to work before/after school to support NJROTC teams.

Weekend responsibilities required for team events and some community service. The school is on a conventional 6-period schedule. The Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI) for the NJROTC program at Quabbin Regional High School is a full-time, on-site position based in Barre, MA. The SNSI leads and manages the NJROTC unit, providing daily instruction in naval science, leadership, citizenship, and personal responsibility. This role includes planning and delivering engaging lessons, supervising drill and physical training, and coordinating co-curricular activities such as community service, ceremonies, and field trips.

The SNSI mentors cadets, supports their academic and personal development, and collaborates with school administrators, staff, families, and Navy representatives to maintain a high-quality, compliant NJROTC program. Day-to-day responsibilities also include maintaining accurate records, overseeing uniforms and equipment, and ensuring adherence to Navy and school policies.

• Strong background with the ability to teach and integrate concepts relevant to naval science and NJROTC curriculum.
• Prior military or NJROTC experience (Navy or other branches) and eligibility to meet NJROTC Senior Naval Science Instructor requirements.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with adolescents from diverse backgrounds.
• Organizational skills to manage program logistics, events, uniforms, equipment, and documentation.
• Ability to collaborate with school administration, faculty, families, and community partners to support program goals.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, science, or a related field is preferred.
