Job Description
St. Monica‑St. Michael Pre‑K Program is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic individual to serve in a Pre‑K Assistant Teacher position for the 2026/2027 school year. Our state‑licensed 4‑STAR program is located within St. Monica‑St. Michael Catholic School in Barre, Vermont and follows the school calendar for holidays and vacations. There may be additional potential to work in the four‑week summer program as the need arises.
The Pre‑K assistant teacher should have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities.
Duties include but are not limited to: supporting the classroom teacher, preparing centers, snacks, rest areas, clean up, and coverage for the classroom. CPR/First Aid is required for this position, to be arranged by the school if not currently certified. Applicants should be familiar with the Vermont Child Care Licensing regulations, enjoy nurturing young children, willing to be outdoors, and have the proven ability to be a member of a team.
Our program is licensed for 30 children housed within two classrooms. In addition, the successful applicant will be willing to submit to various background checks for both the Catholic Diocese and the Vermont Child Development Division (CDD) and participate in the required CDD 15 hours of training each year.
- Have a high school degree or equivalent education
- Have at least 1 year of experience working with children from grade three and younger
- Submit to various background checks
- Be CPR, First Aid, and Certified
- Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences
- Be aware of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities
- Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 50 lbs
- Be available for full‑time employment
- Have dependable transportation
- At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
- High School/Trade School degree preferred
