The Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to work in the Structures Section of the Project Delivery Bureau. This position will be responsible for leading the engineering development of project plans, specifications, and estimates for bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects throughout the state, and supervising/overseeing the work of other engineers. The ideal candidate will have experience in bridge and roadway design, combined with good communication and collaboration skills.
This position will be located in Barre City Place in Barre, VT with an opportunity for partial teleworking.
Job Duties- Bridge Design - Design and analyze various structural elements of bridges, including superstructures, substructures, foundations, and retaining walls, ensuring compliance with applicable design codes and regulatory requirements.
- Roadway Design - Design of horizontal and vertical roadway alignments, as well as superelevation, guardrail layout, drainage, stormwater and erosion protection needs.
- Construction Documents - Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, and other documentation related to design, analysis, and construction activities.
- CADD Modeling - Develop 3-Dimensional models of roadways and bridges to support design and plan development.
- Supervision/project leadership - Provide oversight and guidance to multiple direct reports and engineering leadership on moderate to complex bridge projects.
- Collaboration - Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, civil engineers, environmental engineers, and transportation planners, to integrate designs with overall infrastructure projects.
Duties are generally performed in both office and field settings for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.

Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND six (6) years of engineering experience.
OR
Licensure as a Professional Engineer AND five (5) years of engineering experience.
OR
Associates degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND eight (8) years of engineering experience, including licensure as an Engineer Intern.
