This Civil Engineer II position is part of the Structures/Hydraulics Section at the Vermont Agency of Transportation, where engineers develop plans, specifications, and estimates for transportation infrastructure statewide. The role focuses on hydrology and hydraulics, supporting the design and analysis of bridges and culverts through hydraulic modeling, hydrologic calculations, and stream behavior evaluation. Engineers prepare technical documentation, conduct field assessments, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams while using specialized tools like HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, and GIS software.
Keyqualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related technical field plus 2 years of engineering experience
- OR Associate's degree in civil engineering plus 4 years of engineering experience and Engineer Intern licensure
- Proficiency with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling tools (HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, HY-8, WMS)
- Experience with GIS software for mapping and data evaluation
- Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple assignments
- Availability for fieldwork in various weather conditions and potential evening/weekend work
