Granite Precision Machinist

Rock of Ages is looking for a skilled and motivated Precision Machinist to join our Precision Products team. In this role, you will work with high-precision granite components used in specialized applications for customers across the U.S. and internationally.

This position is ideal for individuals with experience in machining, precision manufacturing, CNC machining operations, or industrial production. While most of the work is performed on granite (approximately 90%), some projects involve metal components and assemblies. Attention to detail is a must with tolerances measured in thousandths of inches.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and customer specifications.
  • Machining of precision granite products using Computer Controlled Saws, Precision Grinders, CNCs, and Drills.
  • Perform layout, measuring, and machining of stainless-steel threaded inserts into granite
  • Set up work pieces, verify dimensions, and ensure compliance with tight quality standards.
  • Perform finishing work such as grinding, polishing, deburring, and surface preparation.
  • Assemble precision granite components and mechanical assemblies.
  • Inspect finished parts to ensure quality and customer requirements are met.
  • Maintain inventory of your materials, including but not limited to tooling, consumables, lubricants, epoxy, etc.
  • Follow all safety procedures and quality standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and team objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Experience in CNC machining, precision manufacturing, metalworking, or related industrial work.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret dimensional specifications.
  • Mechanical aptitude with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience with precision measuring tools is an asset.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot effectively.
  • Strong commitment to quality, safety, and craftsmanship.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new technical skills

Physical Requirements:

This position requires standing, walking, frequent use of hands and tools, and handling materials throughout the workday. Employees have access to lifting equipment, including overhead cranes, and team support for moving materials safely.

Working Conditions:

  • Employment status:
    Permanent / Full-time.
  • Hourly rate: $25 to $35 and up, depending on industry experience.
  • Schedule/1st shift: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Overtime available
