Position: News Producer, Bell Media
Location: CTV Barrie
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Job Status:
40 hours per week plus overtime as required. Shift work including evenings and rare weekends.
Responsibilities
As a key member of the editorial team in the CTV News Barrie Newsroom, this experienced journalist will help lead content‑execution. Primarily focused on guiding the quality, balance, and style of the 6:00 p.m. broadcast.
This role supports the successful execution of all newsroom broadcasts and content to the highest standards.
- Lineup and produce CTV News Barrie at 6:00 p.m
- Work alongside News Director, Senior Producer, other editorial staff and content‑creators to execute high‑quality broadcasts and digital coverage that drives audience engagement
- Write, evaluate and approve scripts and video for broadcast using sound ethical and journalistic judgement
- Review broadcast rundowns and scripts for flow, relevance, context, and maximized viewer engagement
- Generate strong story ideas that are relevant to the local audience
- Write, publish, and provide digital content support where necessary on and social media platforms
- Assign, chase, and delegate resources
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Post Secondary Education in Broadcasting, or Journalism
- At least two years’ experience in a newsroom editorial position
- Ability to evaluate and provide feedback on the work of others
- Ability to receive constructive feedback from others on show lineup, pace, writing
- Conflict‑resolution abilities, sound news judgement, experience vetting stories for fairness, ethics, and legalities
- Exceptional broadcast writing skills
- Knowledge of CP style for digital writing
- Sound news judgement, adhering to for fairness, ethics, and legalities to CTV best practices
- Conflict‑resolution abilities and understanding of and ability to work with others according to Bell’s Code of Conduct, Civility in the Workplace policies
- Competitive drive to win and strong sense of urgency
- Knowledge of television production procedures, terminology and equipment capabilities, iNews
- Excellent organization, time management, communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to react quickly and productively in a changing environment requiring immediate decision‑making
- Ability to adhere to tight deadlines and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to foster a positive attitude and collaborative team environment
- Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
