As a CIBC Financial Planning Consultant, you will be part of CIBC’s Financial Planning and Advice team. The team offers comprehensive financial planning and specialized wealth planning strategies to CIBC’s clients, including estate planning, business transition planning, tax minimization strategies, protection planning and philanthropy. You will be accountable for providing expert financial planning counsel that specializes in wealth management solutions while working in partnership with CIBC banking centre‑based advisors for their clients.
Each consultant will hold the Certified Financial Planning designation (CFP) with Financial Planning Canada, and in Quebec the Quebec designation (IQPF).
- Provide subject‑matter expertise on industry, economic and market impacts, legislation, competitors, regulators and trends.
- Engage clients in discovery advice conversations to understand, define and analyse their priorities and family dynamics, identifying opportunities to optimise financial planning strategies.
- Analyse clients’ financial situations and investment portfolios and align recommendations with their goals.
- Prepare and present holistic financial plans using CIBC financial‑planning tools that encompass retirement, education, inter‑generational estate considerations and future income requirements.
- Provide clients with insights on the current economic and market environment and the effect on their investment portfolios.
- Educate advisors and relationship managers about the role and value proposition of the Financial Planning Consultant using strong interactive and presentation skills.
- Partner with relationship managers to share results of client discussions and coordinate the delivery of products and services sold.
- Identify opportunities for referrals to other CIBC subsidiaries involved in client asset management and discuss with the relationship manager.
- Collaborate with relationship managers within the banking centre network to identify high‑value clients with investment, business transition and estate planning needs and obtain referrals.
- Conduct regular information sessions and seminars for relationship managers.
- Postsecondary degree/diploma and/or 4 years of relevant experience.
- Certified professional (CIRO‑) and current accreditation and good standing as a Registered Representative (RR) with CIRO‑.
- CFP upon hire.
- Certified professional (CIRO‑MFD) with current accreditation and good standing in CIRO‑MFD licensing.
- Certified professional (Quebec) with current accreditation and good standing in AMF licensing; successful completion of Canadian Investment Funds Course (CIFC) or Canadian Securities Course (CSC) to support AMF licensing, and Registered Retirement Consultant (RRC).
- Optional asset: completed CSI/ICB Investment and Taxation Fundamentals Course – Quebec (0774) and CSI/ICB Legal & Ethical Aspects of Financial Planning Course (0790).
- Investment knowledge and expertise and strong understanding of markets sufficient to respond to detailed and complex inquiries from a sophisticated, high net‑worth client group.
