Innisfil Fire & Rescue Service is composite fire services, staffed by a dedicated team of career and volunteer firefighters who work 24/7 from 5 strategically located stations to serve our community, along with prevention and inspection teams. We help protect life and property from fire, hazards, and other emergencies through emergency response, prevention, public education and fire code enforcement. Poised for community growth, Innisfil Fire & Rescue Services is in the process of implementing our new First Due RMS/Fire reporting System, replace all our self-contained breathing apparatus with MSA G1 (2025 Edition) and in the process of completing an updated fire master plan to prepare the department for our rapid growth including embarking on Highrise & large building firefighting coming to our community.

We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking Deputy Fire Chief to join the Town’s Fire & Rescue Team! Leading the day-to-day general operations of Fire & Rescue Services as one of two Deputy Fire Chiefs, this portfolio encompasses Operations, Training and Fleet. This position requires a strategic mindset to enhance service delivery to our community, support staff safety and well-being and support operational efficiency in support of our Community Strategic Plan vision of ‘Community First.

Future Ready. Balance Always.’ Accountabilities include:

  • Supervising emergency response operations and commands at major incidents.
  • Assisting the Fire Marshal’s Office with fire investigations ensuring appropriate reporting and follow-up to incidents.
  • Supervising and directing the day-to-day administration of the Fire & Rescue Services Full-time and Volunteer Suppression and Training divisions.
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of the Fire Department’s Training Program.
  • Managing the maintenance/management of fire fleet including procurement, developing preventative maintenance and capital renewal programs, and coordinating repairs.
  • Developing and managing various high level and detailed data driven reports and recommendations related to benchmarking, metrics, process reviews, process changes, and performance related to the service delivery of the Fire & Rescue Service.
  • Identifying, developing, and recommending strategic projects, facilitating short and long-term planning and executing business plans, work plans and goal setting processes.
Requirements:
  • Community College Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline, accompanied by post-graduate studies in Business and/or Public Administration and Management studies is preferred.
  • Ontario Fire College, Company Officer Diploma, or NFPA 1021 Level III (or willing to obtain) or equivalent.
  • Ontario Fire College, Training Officer Certification would be considered an asset.
  • Significant demonstrated experience in a senior officer capacity, including ten (10) years in a Fire Department and five (5) years supervisory experience in a unionized Fire environment.
  • Experience with First Due RMS considered an asset.
  • Residency in proximity to the municipality such as that the incumbent will be able to respond within a 30-minute response time frame to the Town boundaries.
