Salary Grade: 16 ($114,546–$148,910 annually)

Compensation is determined within a defined salary range for each role. Placement within the range depends on qualifications, relevant experience, and alignment with the role’s requirements. The position receives annual incentive payment and may include on‑call pay per rotating schedule.

What you’ll do

Conduct training needs analyses and establish short‑ and long‑term training objectives for apprentices and Powerline Technicians (PLTs).

Coordinate training plans with internal and external resources to ensure timely and appropriate delivery.

Identify and evaluate new training tools and methods for organizational suitability and effectiveness.

Develop and maintain the Apprentice Program Guide.

Develop and schedule Skills Boot Camps for apprentices prior to each level of schooling.

Deliver orientations for co‑op students, new apprentices, and PLT hires.

Observe apprentices in classroom and field settings to ensure they receive the learning and support required for success.

Ensure apprentices are instructed and evaluated to provincial standards.

Conduct regular visits with apprentices and mentors to identify learning opportunities.

Serve as the primary point of contact for apprenticeship program questions and concerns.

Assess performance and analyze feedback to determine actions that support apprentice success.

Conduct periodic performance reviews with apprentices.

Partner with management teams to ensure apprentices receive interdepartmental task exposure.

Provide coaching and feedback to internal coaches and mentors.

Ensure consistent application of the Apprentice Program and alignment with industry guidelines and standards.

Partner with functional areas, Health & Safety, and Human Resources to address issues, concerns, and gaps in program application.

Coordinate compliance training schedules with Health & Safety teams and third‑party vendors.

Organize and oversee the annual Rescue Practice Day and ensure team participation.

Work with Skilled Trades Ontario to initiate apprentice training agreements.

Register apprentices in school.

Ensure apprentice logs are maintained and Journeyperson documentation is obtained upon apprenticeship completion.

Provide progress reports on apprentice training and development as required by functional areas.

Co‑ordinate meetings, schedules, and supporting documentation.

Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and Alectra policies, procedures, and standards.

Plan, organize, and oversee the recruitment of new Powerline Technicians, apprentices, and co‑op students.

Play a key role in recruitment, selection, and onboarding, including participating in on‑site meetings with functional managers, providing feedback to trade schools, and observing potential new hires.

Travel, as required, to support recruitment activities at colleges and other institutions.

Participate in college Program Advisory Committees.

Work closely with Technical Trades Supervisors across Alectra regions to ensure consistency in program content, objectives, and delivery.

Organize and chair Apprentice meetings.

Assess and recommend upgrades to departmental training facilities.

Identify opportunities to streamline or automate processes to improve service delivery.

Identify opportunities for apprentices to participate in external skills competitions and coordinate involvement.

Demonstrate professional conduct and align with Alectra’s core values of safety, teamwork, and customer focus.

Perform additional tasks as assigned to support operational objectives.

Who you are
Education & Technical Knowledge

Post‑secondary education in a related field.

Holds a recognized trade or equivalent (434A PLT considered an asset).

Train‑the‑Trainer certification considered an asset.

Must hold and maintain a valid Class G driver’s licence.

Extensive knowledge of OHSA, EUSR, and health & safety regulations.

In‑depth knowledge of Alectra policies, procedures, and standards.
