Qualifications
- Hold or be eligible for a valid principal's certificate issued by the Rhode Island Department of Education.
- A Master's Degree.
- Five years of successful classroom teaching experience.
- Demonstrated leadership and initiative in the field of education.
- Any exceptions to the above as may be acceptable to the School Committee.

SUPERVISES: All certified and non-certified personnel within the building(s)
JOB GOAL: To lead, support and develop a climate and culture of inclusivity, respect and learning where all students feel valued, respected and a strong sense of belonging to the BHS learning community. Lead and exemplify the professional practices and responsibilities of a Professional Learning Community to foster collaboration and communication to ensure all students are successful.
Performance Responsibilities
Act under the policies established by the School Committee in all matters pertaining to the assigned building(s), including any tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or Principal.Lead professional learning around proactive social and emotional behavioral strategies to ensure all students’ success.Monitor student attendance, including identifying, supporting and meeting with families and school staff to support chronically absent students.Supervise the creation and implementation of student attendance plans.Meet regularly with student groups around social media, positive behavioural responses and regular attendance.Meet regularly with student leadership groups (Student Council, Ambassadors, etc.) to discuss student behaviours, attendance, social media use, etc.Collaborate with the SRO, as needed, on issues related to supporting student safety.Be prepared to respond to student behavioural issues as they arise and investigate and follow-up on bullying-related incidents.Lead school wide initiatives around restorative justice practices to support students and maintain student accountability.Promote student agency and collaboration in school climate initiatives.Lead the office staff in planning daily teacher coverage needs.Supervise and monitor student congestion areas, including daily bus drop‑off and pick‑up, hallways and bathrooms and the student parking lot.Supervise daily after‑school detention and assign coverage for any in‑school suspension as needed.Provide daily lunch supervision.Coordinate, plan and manage AP test ordering and administration and assist with other state testing administration requirements as needed.Share the caseload of student 504 plans between building administrators to monitor, implement and communicate student 504 plans.Work collaboratively with building administrators to supervise and evaluate certified staff as needed.Work with all building and District staff to develop and maintain a positive school climate conducive to effective learning and optimum teaching and characterized by a common purpose, mission, vision, and high expectations and success for all.Support the full inclusion of all learners in all aspects of the school committee, championing the belief that all students can achieve at high levels.Establish and maintain favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for school objectives and programs; interpret school committee policies and administrative directives; resolve student problems; encourage community participation in the school’s educational…
