Job DescriptionTeacher Assistant – Special Education I
Job Goal: To provide instructional, social‑emotional, behavioral and other direct support and services to students with disabilities under the supervision and direction of certified staff.
Qualifications- Have a high school diploma
- Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre‑Employment Training Program approved by the RI Department of Education (RIDE). Two (2) exceptions:
- Those with certification as a TA in another state
- Those with an associate degree or bachelor’s degree AND who have completed coursework or other training consistent with the teacher assistant program standards
- Meet one of the following:
- Successfully passed the Para Pro Assessment
- Complete at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education
- Obtain an associate or higher degree
- Completion of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification upon hire
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to operate a keyboard, to view a computer screen, and to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Required vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, reach with hands and arms, grasp and manipulate large and small items. The employee is also required to move from location to location, lift items weighing up to 30 pounds, and engage in hands‑on physical restraints following CPI. Communication requirements include the ability to hear and respond to voice and other sounds in small and large settings with background noise and to present information orally and in writing.

Job Requirements- At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
- High School/Trade School degree preferred
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
