Qualifications:

Hold or be eligible for a valid principal's certificate issued by the Rhode Island Department of Education. A Master's Degree. Five years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably at the upper elementary level. Demonstrated leadership and initiative in the field of education. Training in the Science of Reading preferred. Position Summary:

The Elementary Assistant Principal assists the Principal in providing instructional leadership, managing school operations, fostering a positive school culture, and supporting student achievement. The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with teachers, staff, students, families, and community partners to ensure a safe, inclusive, and effective learning environment that promotes academic excellence and student well-being.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership Support the implementation of the school's vision, mission, and improvement goals. Assist in supervising and evaluating instructional staff in accordance with district policies and state regulations. Promote effective teaching practices through classroom observations, feedback, coaching, and professional development. Analyze student performance data and collaborate with staff to improve instructional outcomes. Support curriculum implementation and alignment with state standards.

School Climate and Student Support Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture that supports the social, emotional, and academic growth of all students. Assist in the development and enforcement of student behavior expectations and discipline procedures. Implement restorative practices and positive behavior interventions. Work with support staff, special education staff, and intervention teams to support student needs. Address student attendance concerns and implement strategies to improve attendance rates.

Operations and Management Assist in managing daily school operations, including supervision schedules, transportation, recess, lunch, arrival, and dismissal procedures. Coordinate emergency preparedness, safety drills, and crisis response procedures. Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations. Assist with scheduling, student enrollment, and record maintenance. Support the administration of state and district assessments.

Family and Community Engagement Build positive relationships with students, families, and community stakeholders. Facilitate effective communication between home and school. Participate in family engagement activities, school events, and community partnerships. Respond to parent and community concerns in a timely and professional manner.

Staff Leadership Collaborate with teachers and staff to promote a culture of continuous improvement. Support staff recruitment and retention efforts. Lead committees, professional learning communities, and school initiatives as assigned. Serve as acting principal in the principal's absence.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to lead and motivate staff toward achieving school goals. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to analyze and use data to improve student achievement. Knowledge of educational laws, regulations, and best practices. Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community members. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success. Ability to attend occasional evening and weekend school-related events.

Other Duties:
Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrators. Preferred:
Previous leadership experience such as instructional coach, dean, department chair, or assistant principal. Experience working with diverse student populations. Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
