Job DescriptionTitle: Teacher Assistant – Special Education II
Qualifications- Have a high school diploma.
- Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre‑Employment Training Program approved by the RI Department of Education (RIDE).
- Exceptions:
- Certification as a TA in another state.
- Associate or bachelor's degree AND completion of coursework or training consistent with teacher assistant program standards.
- Exceptions:
- Meet one of the following requirements:
- Successfully passed the Para Pro Assessment.
- Complete at least two years of study at a higher‑education institution.
- Obtain an associates or higher degree.
- Completion of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification upon hiring.

The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, reach with hands and arms, grasp and manipulate large and small items, lift items up to 30 pounds, engage in hands‑on physical restraints following CPI. Communication requires the ability to hear and respond to voice and other sounds in small and large settings with background noise and to present information orally and in writing.
