CVS Health brings people who care deeply, innovate with purpose, and prioritize safety and quality. Join us to simplify health care one person, one family and one community at a time.

Job Purpose and Summary At CVS Health, we transform health care for customers and strive to be a great place to work. We help people navigate the health care system and their personal health care by improving access, lowering costs and being a trusted partner for meaningful moments of health. Within our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians (Technicians) support pharmacy teams to deliver on our brand promise.

As a Technician, you will support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within your store. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist patients and customers to deliver an exceptional experience. Technicians help ensure operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately, and we provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations. Technicians work as part of the pharmacy team through SOPs, best practices, and effective communication.

They contribute to a safe and inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered.

Once in role, Technicians must complete a rigorous company training program and satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to their State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Until all requirements are completed, duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: assist at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone; solve or escalate patient problems.
  • Complete basic inventory activities as directed by the pharmacy leadership team, such as putting away medication deliveries and completing cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting bin inventories.
  • Contribute to a high-performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge to better assist patients.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs; support a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic; travel to stores in the market as needed.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, standards, and ethical principles. Adhere to CVS policies to ensure patient safety, controlled substance dispensing/recordkeeping, and patient privacy and security.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, and offsite clinics) where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification.

Where permissible, the Pharmacy Technician may also support immunizations, including:

  • Completing licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status to prepare and administer vaccines.
  • Educating patients about vaccines and directing vaccination questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty.
  • Monitoring for adverse reactions and reporting per public health requirements.
  • Reviewing and collecting patient information and documenting for each applicable patient.
  • Monitoring and managing vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy (age, education, licensure/certification).
  • If no minimum age is mandated by the state board, must be at least 16 years of age.
  • If no minimum educational requirement is mandated, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or a high school equivalency program.
