SummaryOf Position:
Under the supervision of the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs is a key on-site leadership position for supporting and fostering a positive and growth-focused team atmosphere that contributes to and fosters student success. This position will work closely with the Dean of Academic Affairs, faculty, adjunct faculty, as well as cross-departmentally.
The Academic Affairs Office oversees the following divisions:
Instructional Programming (Academic and Career & Technical Education), Workforce Development, Tuzzy Consortium Library, and Education Technology.
- Assist the Dean with the day-to-day work within the Academic Affairs department;
Apprise and advise the Dean on daily operations of the Academic Affairs division. - Assist in the strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of academic programs, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
- Lead initiatives on refreshing existing curriculum and/or introducing new curriculum or programmatic activities at the College, with a focus on Alaska workforce needs. Facilitate work with faculty and consultants on developing curriculum and/or micro-credentials.
- Supervise current adjunct faculty, including onboarding, supporting course management, and engaging in regular evaluation processes;
Recruit and hire adjunct faculty as needed. - Support the Dean of Academic Affairs and faculty by managing and assisting with degree and course assessment; institute and model best practices on assessment with all faculty in conjunction with the Dean of Academic Affairs.
- Under the direction of the Dean of Academic Affairs, assist with accreditation activities and compliance, and help continue to build a culture of data and data-informed decision-making.
- Support the Dean of Academic Affairs with course scheduling, the academic calendar, coordination of classroom use, and other administrative tasks.
- Lead special initiatives and engage as a grant project director with oversight of various Academic Affairs grants, as assigned.
- Coach and/or mentor faculty, adjunct faculty and staff as directed by the Dean.
- Work with Dean of Academic Affairs to review, develop, and implement instructional policies and procedures; assures compliance of institution-wide policies.
- Ensure clear, frequent, and effective communication with faculty, staff, students, and other institutional stakeholders.
- Provide and prepare data, presentations, and reports as requested.
- Collaborate with Student Services to strengthen student recruitment, advising, and retention activities.
- Attend academic and community events, as needed.
- Serve as Acting Dean of Academic Affairs in the absence of the Dean.
- Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to take initiative with a results-oriented mindset.
- Skilled in data analysis; demonstrated ability to analyze and systematically compile technical and statistical information.
- Experience managing and supervising staff and faculty.
- Experience coordinating and promoting distance delivery education.
- Understanding of the basic function and mission of community colleges;
