Summaryof Position:
The Instructor/Assistant Professor of Business and Basic Accounting is responsible for developing and teaching courses in the Business Program at the Associate and Bachelor degree levels, including courses on management, basic accounting, and undergraduate finance courses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Teach courses in the faculty member's field of specialization (basic accounting and finance, general business) at the Associate and Bachelor degree levels.
- Individualize approach to instruction to accommodate students at different academic levels and employ different cultural frameworks within the same class session. Instruction may take place via direct instruction, cooperative learning, internship, apprenticeship, distance delivery, interactive computer-based instruction, and/or other modes, as needed and appropriate.
- Revise and develop curricular and instructional materials as needed to ensure course content, instructional methods, learning activities, assessment/evaluation products, and mode(s) of delivery remain current according to best practices in the field of study while addressing institutional needs. Participate in continuing professional development to support the above.
- Collaborate with academic peers, the Dean of Academic Affairs Office, and other College Departments/divisions (as needed) with instructional (e.g., curriculum, materials, assessment/evaluation tools), curricular (e.g., program review and revision), and institutional development (e.g., accreditation).
- Collect data, complete reports, and give presentations, as needed.
- Engage in service to the Department and the College (e.g., committee work, student advising, accreditation, adjunct support).
- Comply with College policies, procedures, and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
- Complete tasks commonly associated with faculty status (e.g., timely grade submission, regular office hours).
- May require travel by small plane to remote villages to provide instruction and/or conduct other College business.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience teaching introductory economics, basic accounting, and financial management courses (priority). Experience teaching management and operations (secondary).
- Computer and technology skills, as needed to perform duties.
- Minimum two years post-secondary teaching experience.
- Experience with multimodal delivery.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
- Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
- Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
- Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
- Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College's mission.
- Master’s degree in Business (MBA) or in finance or accounting (MFin or MSA), or related discipline, or equivalent qualification (e.g., CPA, CFA)
