job summary:
under the general supervision of the maintenance manager and/or maintenance crew lead, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance, modification, and repair activities in assigned maintenance operations areas, which may include carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs at residential and service facilities and grounds work; supervises maintenance specialist i as assigned; and performs related work as required.
essential duties and responsibilities:
- performs skills and semi-skilled maintenance activities depending upon area of assignment, including performing basic trade activities such as electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work.
- maintains and repairs hvac, plumbing, electrical, and security systems.
- maintains and repairs physical structures as needed.
- uses power tools and other equipment to perform basic carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and/or other repairs and maintenance.
- inspects facilities, equipment, and grounds for necessary repairs, improvements, or preventative maintenance.
- performs janitorial duties on the grounds and in facilities as assigned.
- travels to the villages on the north slope when assigned.
- communicates changes and progress, responds promptly to customer needs; meets commitments.
- prepares written reports.
- responds to emergencies as required; coordinates activities with other responders.
- ability to work regular overtime and weekends.
- maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- travels to nsb villages as required.
- observes tnha safety rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
- maintains complete confidentiality of all information obtained through professional and client interactions.
- performs other duties as assigned.

required:
- working experience with ms office programs such as excel, outlook, access, word, and ms project, windows operating system, internet, and related programs. Ability to learn programs and take training for job-specific computer programs (e.g., hr and timekeeping software).
- reasoning skills to include the ability to solve practical problems where only limited information exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- high school graduate or general equivalency diploma (ged) recipient.
- two (2) years of work experience with general carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.
- valid alaska driver's license that meets tnha insurance criteria.
- work experience as an auto mechanic for trade or equivalent college training at an auto mechanic trade school.
- four (4) years of work experience with auto repairs at a professional level or equivalent college training.
- osha 10-hour certification.
- 40-hour hazwopper certification.
- boiler operation training or certification.
- alaskan native/american indian (member of federally recognized tribe).
- ability to speak and/or understand conversational inupiaq.
work environment: the work environment is both indoor and outdoor, often in cold weather conditions. It may involve travel by small aircraft, working around heavy machinery, and in areas with varying noise levels.
