Water Specialist (Part‑time)
Non‑Profit focused on water treatment plants seeks part‑time Water Specialist (20‑35 hours per week) to provide grant assistance, project, and technical assistance to water systems throughout the Mojave Water Agency service area in San Bernardino County, California. The role targets disadvantaged communities, supporting small water districts and mutual water companies in regulatory compliance and sustainable system planning.
Salary
: $34‑$37 per hour
- Water Technical Assistance
:
Assist entities by providing technical assistance resources to resolve water issues and achieve compliance with regulatory requirements, including rate schedule establishment, testing methods, regulatory interpretation, development of Sanitary Sewer Management Plans, and operator certification training.
Key activities:- Meet with water systems and related entities to develop consensus for potential water projects.
- Meet with local regional boards and SWRCB staff regarding potential water projects.
- Review existing water‑treatment plant operations to identify necessary additional treatment for a project.
- List significant milestones required to complete a potential project.
- Act as liaison between project entities, funding entities and regulators.
- Water Project Assistance
:
When a project is ready to move forward, the specialist:- Identify, select and manage professional firms for preliminary engineering, cost estimates, CEQA, regulatory compliance, and funding applications.
- Provide project‑management assistance, including consultations, attending project meetings, reviewing preliminary design reports, responding to regulatory and governmental entities, assisting with selection of contractors, construction managers, and inspectors, and representing the entity as directed.
- Travel for extended periods by car or airplane throughout California.
- Ability to lift 20 pounds or less.
- Sitting, standing or walking for long periods.
- Use of office equipment (computers, fax, copiers, phone equipment).
- Normal hearing and vision with or without correction.
- BA preferred.
- California driver’s license.
- Proficiency in Access, Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams and typing.
- Good oral communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to change, learn new skills rapidly and work well with diverse personalities.
- California SWRCB Water Level 2 or California P.E. certification.
