Phillips 66 & YOU - Together we can fuel the future

The Senior Engineer I, Digital Products will combine engineering, physics‑based models, data/ML, and modern software practices to build asset‑integrated decision systems that improve safety, reliability, and profitability. You’ll work from problem scoping through deployment, using AI coding assistants to increase speed and impact.

You will use domain knowledge and advanced statistical and machine learning methods to solve enterprise‑wide science and engineering problems located at the Phillips 66 Energy Research and Innovation (ERI) Center in Bartlesville, OK. The ERI team delivers critical support and solutions that enable strong operating excellence and growth opportunities for Phillips 66 worldwide.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop and maintain domain model engines (e.g., kinetic, thermodynamic, reliability, optimization, or applied ML) and operationalize them in scalable workflows (APIs, jobs, pipelines).
  • Integrate time‑series and contextual plant data (lab, historian, planning, maintenance) into reliable asset state representations and model inputs.
  • Implement decision‑support tools (scenario analysis, risk/range framing, prioritization) that connect model outputs to operational and capital decisions.
  • Design and build asset‑integrated systems that apply engineering, physics‑based, and ML models to industrial data in support of clear business objectives.
  • Partner with business, engineering, operations, and IT to scope problems, define success metrics, deploy solutions, and iterate based on user feedback.
  • Harness AI coding assistants and agents to accelerate coding, refactoring, documentation, and data exploration, while keeping humans in the loop for validation and governance.
What You’ll Bring – Required
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • PhD in Chemical Engineering (or a closely related field) with 3 years of work experience, OR Master’s of Science in Chemical Engineering (or a closely related field) with 5 years of work experience.
  • Intermediate or greater proficiency in programming using statistical and engineering languages (e.g., Python, R, Julia) with experience building production‑grade data/model pipelines.
  • Experience with engineering or scientific modeling (e.g., kinetics, thermodynamics, reliability, optimization, or applied ML).
  • Working knowledge of data engineering concepts (time‑series data, ETL/ELT, data quality, and system integration with lab/historian/enterprise systems).
  • Ability to translate domain models into scalable, maintainable software systems (APIs, services, or applications) with testing and version control.
What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred
  • Experience delivering asset‑integrated digital products used in operations or planning, ideally in energy, chemicals, or similar industries.
  • Familiarity with git‑based workflows, automated testing, CI/CD, and MLOps/LLMOps practices, including containerization (e.g., Docker).
  • Experience using AI coding assistants or LLM‑based tools professionally, with an understanding of appropriate guardrails.
  • Exposure to building or contributing to simple user interfaces (dashboards, notebooks, or web apps) that surface models and decision tools to end users.
Compensation Range

This position has a base salary range of $141,300 – $172,700.

Benefits
  • Annual Variable Cash Incentive Program (VCIP) bonus.
  • 8% 401k company match.
