Job OverviewThe Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) is seeking an Investigator to join our team. This position will conduct criminal and administrative investigations and is a state‑commissioned law‑enforcement position. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and interviewing OJA youth and staff. CLEET law enforcement certification is required. Knowledge of equal employment opportunity laws and modern methods of investigation is a plus.
BasicPurpose
Positions in this job family are assigned the responsibility of conducting both criminal and administrative investigations regarding Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) youth, staff, and facilities as well as the location and apprehension of fugitive/missing OJA youth.
Key Responsibilities- Responsible for conducting internal investigations of agency personnel and youth who have been accused of serious misconduct and/or criminal behavior.
- Conduct investigations to locate and apprehend fugitive youth and other missing juveniles.
- Investigate pertinent criminal and/or regulatory violations, defenses, and/or the background of a client and relevant individuals as directed.
- Conduct interviews/interrogations of witnesses and suspects in criminal and administrative investigations.
- Collect and preserve evidence, maintain related records, and ensure chain of custody.
- Analyze and evaluate collected evidence and information and prepare a written report.
- Prepare investigative prosecutorial reports and draft and execute legal documents as requested.
- Appear as a witness in court proceedings to testify to the findings of the investigation.
- Serve legal process to include subpoenas, search warrants, arrest warrants, and additional administrative paperwork.
- Assist city, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies with criminal investigations of law violations occurring at OJA facilities or with OJA staff or youth.
- Conduct investigations to ensure that OJA facilities, staff and youth are in compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
- Conduct Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) investigations as a result of complaints/grievances filed by agency employees and/or clients.
Salary: $60,000.00
Minimum QualificationsRequirements consist of a bachelor’s degree, including at least twenty‑four hours in any combination of psychology, sociology, social work, criminology, penology, education, police science or criminal justice and one (1) year of professional experience conducting criminal investigations for a city, county, state or federal government law enforcement entity; OR three (3) years’ experience as a CLEET Certified Law Enforcement Officer with at least two (2) years of full‑time investigative experience;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one additional year of qualifying experience for each year of the required education.
- Applicants may be required to travel as part of their job responsibilities.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license for operating state‑owned vehicles.
- Applicants must possess a valid Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) Peace Officer Certification or comparable peace officer certification recognized by CLEET prior to appointment.
- Must be able to pass OSBI and FBI background check.
- This position is subject to the risks inherent with criminal investigations and law enforcement and is authorized to carry a firearm and should be proficient with law enforcement tactics.
