Description:

Sooner Start is Oklahoma’s early intervention program designed to meet the needs of families with infants and toddlers (ages birth to 3 years old) with developmental delays and/or disabilities in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The program builds upon and provides supports and resources to assist family members to enhance infants or toddler’s learning and development through everyday learning opportunities.

The Behavioral Health Clinician in the Sooner Start program is primarily responsible for providing intervention services to children birth to three and their families to enhance well-being. In addition, Behavioral Health Clinicians facilitate the early identification of children with psychological, social, emotional, or behavioral issues; provide psychoeducation, prevention; training and education as well as consultation with parents and professionals on techniques to promote optimal social-emotional development.

The Behavioral Health clinician will demonstrate capacity for providing evidence based/informed, developmentally sensitive, trauma informed supports and services for families, children and partners/professionals while exemplifying the values expected within the program and for promoting the mission of the organization.

This position is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services in the areas of behavioral and social emotional development. Services are provided in the child’s natural environment settings in which children typically spend time, for example, home or childcare. Services include screenings, evaluations, intervention, and parent education.

Position Responsibilities/

Essential Functions:

The functions within this job family will vary by level; responsibility but may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provides early intervention services in the child and family’s natural environment (home, childcare, park etc.)Participates in family interview.

Conducts intakes, including client interviews and conducts assessments to make appropriate recommendations for services.

Collaborates with families and caregivers to identify goals, develop strategies and appropriate effective individual family services plan based on child/family’s mental and behavioral health needs.

Coaches caregivers on implementing strategies to address social emotional and behavioral concerns.

Participates in the development and implementation of the Individualized Family Service Plan according to state and federal guidelines.

Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team to monitor the effectiveness of child health and development services.

Provides outreach, training, and consultation within the community to support child and family well-being and positive health outcomes.

Consults with community agencies, childcare and school systems on behalf of families and may provide special programs as requested.
