Sparklight's Advance Technicians provide world‑class support service by completing new customer installations, repairing equipment, and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities- Maintain high‑quality connectivity by troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions in the Headend, HFC, and fiber‑optic networks, and the Home Terminal Units.
- Repair local plant performance issues and customer‑owned equipment using electronic test equipment.
- Read and interpret system/network design maps, verify as‑built documentation, compare field findings with existing documentation, and report findings following company standard processes.
- Splice and/or terminate coaxial and fiber‑optic cables; mount active and passive devices, both aerial and underground (cabinets and vaults); activate active devices; and test to ensure optimal performance.
- Perform surveys to determine if customer‑requested locations are capable of receiving service; create maps/drawings as necessary to estimate costs for plant/drop extensions.
- Conduct underground facility locates accurately using plant maps and electronic locating equipment to prevent cable damage and service interruptions.
- Perform construction maintenance duties, including splicing aerial/underground coaxial and/or fiber‑optic cables and equipment, repairing and replacing damaged plant, and inspecting or replacing power supplies.
- Continuously monitor plant for ingress/egress and perform signal leakage ride‑out activities as necessary.
- Train system technical personnel as directed by local system management.
- One‑year certificate from college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must successfully complete the Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within six months of accepting the position.
- Working knowledge of signal‑level meters, volt‑ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time‑domain reflectometer (TDR), optical time‑domain reflectometer (OTDR), and related test equipment.
- Knowledgeable of rules and regulations of regulatory bodies affecting a telecommunications system, including FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, DOT, and local ordinances.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license in the state of employment.
- Ability to work a variable schedule and respond to service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work, or on‑call duty; must be available for overtime, weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
