Overnight Camp - Adventure Coordinator

PURPOSE:
To oversee all program and aquatic activities and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for campers in 3rd – 12th grade at our overnight summer camp. This position is responsible for ensuring the quality and safety at all specialized program activities at camp, including pool, canoeing, kayaking, archery, climbing/rappelling, and specialty programs.
Essential FunctionsProgram Development and planning:
- Collaborate with the camp leadership team to develop a comprehensive and well-balanced program that aligns with the CFGC’s mission and values.
- Implement a comprehensive aquatic program that includes recreational swim time, water sports, kayaks, canoes, Corcls, and other water-related activities.
- Help maintain a balanced schedule that caters to various skill levels and ensures each camper has the opportunity to learn and participate.
- Curate age-appropriate, diverse, and exciting activities that identify, promote, and develop “sparks”, a growth mindset, goal setting, and reflection.
- Ensure that the camp program meets safety standards and adheres to all necessary regulations set forth by CFGC’s and the ACA’s standards.
Staff Management and Training:
- Assist in training, and supervision of a team of activity leaders and cabin counselors to ensure the successful execution of camp activities.
- Provide ongoing guidance, support, and feedback to staff members, fostering a positive and cohesive team environment.
- Train, and supervise a team of certified lifeguards, and support staff while in aquatics areas.
- Provide ongoing training, coaching, and feedback to program staff to ensure they are well-equipped to maintain a safe and engaging environment.
Safety, Risk Management, and Emergency Preparedness:
- Enforce strict safety protocols, emergency procedures, and pool rules to prevent accidents and respond effectively to any incidents.
- Practice emergency response plans specific to program and aquatic activities, ensuring that staff are well-prepared to handle incidents.
Facility Maintenance:
- Collaborate with the camp facilities team to ensure proper maintenance, cleaning, and sanitation of all aquatic areas, including pools and waterfronts.
- Regularly inspect equipment, ensuring that it meets safety standards and is in good working condition.
- Oversee the implementation of the camp schedule, ensuring a smooth flow of activities and a memorable experience for all campers.
- Foster a positive and inclusive camp culture where campers can thrive, make friends, and explore new interests.
Program Evaluation:
- Continuously assess the effectiveness of the camp and aquatics program and make necessary adjustments to enhance the camper experience.
- Assist in collecting feedback from campers, staff, and parents to identify areas for improvement.
Logistics and Operations:
- Coordinate with other camp departments to ensure seamless logistical support for all activities, including scheduling, equipment, and supplies.
- At least 21 years of age
- Degree or pursuing a degree or career in Recreation Therapy, Special Education, Human Development and Family Sciences, Social Work, Counseling or similar or equivalent work experience.
- Certified Lifeguard (LGI preferred) with up-to-date CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
- Previous experience in camp leadership or youth programming, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Previous experience in aquatic program management, preferably in a camp or recreational setting with at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse staff team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in working with children and parents.
- Knowledge of aquatic safety regulations, risk management practices, and emergency procedures.
- Enthusiasm for aquatic activities and a commitment to promoting water safety and skill development.
- Passion for working with youth and a commitment to creating a positive and memorable camp experience.
- Ability to live with staff and campers for the duration of the summer camp season
- Physical ability to administer first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Physical ability to travel over uneven surfaces in extreme summer temperatures for 15 hours a day.
- Physical ability to carry and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds over uneven surfaces
- Physical ability to reach, stoop, climb, kneel, and move freely in locations as outdoor camping sites and storage areas
- Ability to meet affiliate employment requirements, including acceptable outcomes to background check and reference checks
- (If utilizing personal vehicle for camp business) Provide personal auto insurance verification
- (If needed to drive affiliate vehicle) Acceptance by affiliate auto insurance
