Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Implement individual or small group instructional lessons under the supervision of a certified teacher.
  • Familiarize self with IEP goals/objectives for students in the classroom.
  • Facilitate implementation of functional community‑based curriculum.
  • Follow through on set behavioral programs and procedures.
  • Document student behavior as directed by the teacher.
  • Supervise IEP‑d students during lunch, recess, arrival and departure times, and/or community trips during assigned work hours as needed.
  • Help in the loading and unloading of student buses at school and on trips during assigned work hours as needed.
  • Escort students within the building, as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Work cooperatively with the classroom teacher by assisting with any related activity specific to the students’ IEP.
  • Collaborate with the teacher, prepare and maintain materials.
  • Lift, transfer, position, toilet, etc. (special skills only).
  • Provide input to the classroom teacher regarding student‑para interactions.
  • Attend staff meetings and staff development activities as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Para Educator, Substitute, Professional Educator or Provisional Educator License required.
  • Minimum education requirement: completion of at least 60 semester hours of college coursework or a passing score on the ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.
  • Bilingual – Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred. Certain assignments require Bilingual – Spanish/English.
Experience / Knowledge
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Lift, transfer, position, toileting, etc. (special skills positions only).
  • Excellent physical agility and quick response time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Term of Employment

This is a 10‑month position. Salary and benefits are as established by the Board of Education and set forth in the collective bargaining agreement as applicable.

Additional Information

6.5 hours per day
$21.13 per hour
This position includes benefits.
Minimum 193 hours per union agreement.
