Para educator – Cross Categorical (including ELL)
School District U-46 – 10‑month position. Salary and benefits established by the Board of Education and set forth in the collective bargaining agreement. Minimum $20.23 per hour for the union agreement.
Position SummarySupport a classroom environment conducive to learning for students with IEPs. Uphold School District U‑46 ICARE Standards. Perform duties under direct supervision of a certified staff member. Adhere to district policies and procedures. Maintain confidentiality of student, staff, and department information.
Job Duties / Responsibilities- Implement individual or small‑group instructional lessons under supervision of a certified teacher.
- Familiarize self with goals/objectives for mainstream/IEP students.
- Facilitate implementation of functional community‑based curriculum as assigned.
- Follow through on set behavioral programs and procedures.
- Document student behavior as directed by the teacher.
- Collaborate with the teacher, prepare and maintain materials.
- Escort students within the building, as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Work cooperatively with the classroom teacher by assisting with any related activity specific to the students’ IEP.
- Lift, transfer, position, toilet, etc. (special skills only).
- Provide input to the classroom teacher regarding student‑para interactions.
- Attend staff meetings and development activities as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Para Educator License required (substitute, professional educator, or provisional educator license). Minimum of 60 semester hours of college coursework or passing score on ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.
- Bilingual Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred; certain assignments require bilingual.
- Effective communication skills.
- Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.
- Lift, transfer, position, toileting etc. (for special skills positions only).
- Excellent physical agility and quick response time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- 10‑month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education and set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.
- 6.5 hours per day.
- Minimum $20.23 per hour.
