US Navy Oceanography officers (METOC) are geophysical experts responsible for meteorology, oceanography, hydrography, and related fields. They define and apply the physical environment to enable Navy operations, at sea and ashore, across a wide range of billets.
Initial and ongoing training covers IWBC, BOAT, DIVOLC, and postgraduate schooling; candidates typically hold a technical baccalaureate with strong math and physics background and must be eligible for Top‑Secret clearance.
