Bartlett Regional Hospital is searching for a Pharmacy Technician to join our Pharmacy team!
Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.External Hires: Pay rate will be determined by applicable qualifications and experience. Pharmacy Tech 1 starts at $20.55 per hour. Pharmacy Tech 2 starts at $22.45 per hour. Pharmacy Tech 3 starts at $26.56 per hour.
Please note:
In lieu of fringe benefits, Casual employees will receive a $2.00 per hour differential.
Job Summary:
Pharmacy Tech 1: Under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician 1 learns to set up basic IVs, Bartlett Hospital specific procedures and policies, and Pharmacy Department processes. Additional duties include providing pharmacy support services such as ordering of medications and supplies, assuring proper storage, distribution, packaging and labeling of drugs, record keeping, clerical duties and inventory control.
Pharmacy Tech 2: Under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician 2 performs journey technical tasks such as aseptic I.V. preparation, proper storage, distribution, packaging, and labeling of medications, associated record keeping; and monitor and reconcile hospital vaccine use and hospital medication usage reports. Positions may also provide assistance to the Senior Pharmacy Technician to carry out the day to day operations.
This level is distinguished from the Pharmacy Technician 1 in that it requires a Pharmacy Technician Certification and on the job experience to qualify for entry to this level.
Pharmacy Tech 3: Under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician 3 performs advanced technical tasks either (or combo):
The position is also assigned general Pharmacy Technician work:
Taking medication histories, aseptic I.V. preparation, proper storage, distribution, packaging, and labeling of medications, associated record keeping; and monitor and reconcile hospital vaccine use and hospital medication usage reports. The position also provides guidance and technical training for Pharmacy Technicians 1 and 2, and assists the Senior Pharmacy Technician in evaluation of technician proficiency levels.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Six (6) months of Pharmacy Technician experience in a medical or retail environment.
Substitution(s) :
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) may substitute for the required experience OR
advancement from the Pharmacy Technician Trainee position may substitute for the required experience.
License: Valid State of Alaska Pharmacy Technician License.
Certification: Must obtain Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within the probationary period, if not already certified at time of appointment.
Career Ladder: Incumbents must advance to Pharmacy Technician
2. Satisfactory work performance is required prior to moving up and the probationary period must be completed. Must obtain Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) prior to advancement. Advancement to the Pharmacy Technician II position is a condition of continued employment.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Six (6) months experience as a BRH Pharmacy Technician 1 or the equivalent at a medical center, clinic, or hospital.
Substitution(s): At least two (2) certifications in advanced Pharmacy Technician work such as:
Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician, Medication History Certificate, or related.
License(s): Valid State of Alaska Pharmacy Technician License.
Certification(s): Pharmacy Technician at time of appointment (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board).
Career Ladder: This level is part of a Career Ladder. Incumbents must advance from Pharmacy Technician 1 to Pharmacy Technician
2. Failure to meet these requirements will result in separation from employment.
Education: High School diploma or the equivalent.
Preferred Education: Associates degree or higher.
Experience: Two (2) years of Pharmacy Technician experience in a hospital or medical center.
License(s): Valid State of Alaska Pharmacy Technician license.
Certification(s): Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
