The Tennessee Innocence Project(“TIP”) investigates and litigates claims of actual innocence on behalf of innocent people across Tennessee. In addition to direct litigation, TIP also engages in policy, education, and restorative work. TIP operates statewide and has offices in Nashville and Memphis.
TIP is looking to hire an experienced Deputy Director with a background in management, operations, and personnel to oversee the daily business of the organization. The Deputy Director will report directly to the Executive Director. All non-legal staff will report to the Deputy Director. Legal staff will report directly to the Legal Director, who will continue to report to the Executive Director.
The ideal candidate is an excellent leader capable of managing the staff and business operations of TIP.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily administrative responsibilities at TIP.
- Supervise the non-legal staff from every department, including development, operations, finance and client services.
- Oversee human resources and work with the Executive Director on staffing decisions.
- Evaluate the efficiency of TIP procedures according to organizational goals and apply improvements.
- Manage relationships/agreements with external vendors.
- Coordinate with the Executive Director to execute strategic goals for TIP.
- Provide daily support to all staff.
- Ensure connectivity between different offices.
- Oversee the accuracy of TIP financials.
Qualifications:
- Deep commitment to TIP’s vision and mission, embracing the focus on rights and social justice.
- Proven experience in business or nonprofit operations.
- In-depth knowledge of nonprofit or business operations (e.g., development, accounting, human resources, budgeting etc.)
- Multi-tasker; efficient and organized with time.
- Proven ability to manage a team of employees.
- Success in achieving measured goals.
- Familiarity with various office software and social media platforms.
- Creative thinker who can help implement organizational sustainability and growth.

This position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Includes paid time off, health care, dental care, vision care, life insurance, matching retirement account and an 8-week sabbatical after seven years of service. - Location:
The position is based in TIP’s Nashville, Tennessee office, but as a statewide organization, the Deputy Director will also work with our team in Memphis. Some travel may be required.
