Machinist, United States – (Ooltewah, TN, Onsite)

This Machinist role is responsible for operating and maintaining the CNC equipment in a safe and efficient manner to achieve the quality and production standards of the company. The position works with fabrication, assembly, material handling, and machine shop, as well as planning and engineering departments.

Responsibilities
  • Define safety obstacles and aid in creating solutions concerning safety, identifying hazards, and suggesting corrective actions.
  • Set‑up and operate toolroom equipment (lathe, mill, broach, grinders, etc.) and machine parts to job specifications.
  • Review job orders and bring required material into the shop from the warehouse.
  • Operate multi‑head CNC controlled machines.
  • Fabricate parts to blueprint specifications using appropriate machines and processes, such as Strippit, Whitney, Cincinnati Press Brake, and Koike Torch.
  • Operate general fabrication equipment (Mubea, Carlton Radial Arm Drill, Roller, etc.).
  • Operate overhead crane in a safe manner in accordance with company safety protocols.
  • Organize paperwork to ensure jobs are completed to company standards.
  • Work with the CNC programmer to maximize plate usage for the highest efficiency.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (daily, weekly, monthly) in the workstation/work area.
  • Operate forklift to bring completed job orders to other departments when required.
  • Liaise with fabrication, assembly, material handlers, and machine shop as well as planning and engineering departments.
  • Log in and scan job orders into a computer system when required.
  • Assist with 5S organization and cleaning initiatives: lean manufacturing, productivity improvements, and maintaining key metrics in overall performance.
  • Adhere to all safety, health, and environmental procedures, policies, and practices and report any potential hazards to supervisor.
  • Attend meetings and training as required.
  • Perform any other duties assigned that fall within the employee’s capabilities.
Experience and Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years in Heavy Equipment/Manufacturing environment preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with CNC machines preferred.
  • Experienced in driving forklift and overhead crane required; training will be provided if needed.
  • Basic computer skills required, good organizational, prioritizing, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork, self‑directed, and take initiative.
  • Excellent critical thinking, communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment dealing with ad‑hoc issues when required.
  • Attention to detail required.
