Overview

The Hatfield and McCoy Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing Appalachian heritage through cultural education, tourism, storytelling, and community engagement. Based in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, the organization connects visitors and local residents to the rich history, traditions, and culture of Appalachia through educational exhibits, public programs, special events, and volunteer opportunities that strengthen community connections and regional identity.

Role Overview

The Ameri Corps VISTA member will strengthen the Foundation’s communications and storytelling capacity by developing tools that increase awareness of Appalachian heritage, programs, and community initiatives. The member will create sustainable communication systems and expand the Foundation’s reach, connecting more people to Appalachian history, culture, and educational opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a toolkit for staff to create website and social media content.
  • Create communication calendars and tools.
  • Collect community stories and create outreach materials.
  • Support digital storytelling efforts that highlight the Foundation’s impact.
  • Develop a database to document the organization’s impact through digital storytelling.
  • Develop a storytelling plan for staff to share Appalachian heritage stories.
  • Support outreach campaigns.
