UTILITY WORKER - OIL SERVICE TECHNICIAN
$42,745.00 Annually

Job Functions- Perform oil changes and preventive maintenance on gas and diesel engines to maintain equipment.
- Replace parts as needed to maintain various types of equipment.
- Operate different types of equipment to test its functioning ability.
- Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles/equipment.
- Read and write diagrams.
- Install new tires on city vehicles including automobiles, light and heavy‑duty trucks, and small construction equipment.
- Prepare work orders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of common vehicle shop safety regulations and practices.
- Working knowledge of the operation of various types of equipment to test for functioning.
- Skills in using various hand tools and various types of diagnostic equipment to maintain city equipment.
- Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people.
- Ability to read and interpret service and parts manuals.
- Ability to differentiate sounds when making repairs.
- Physical ability to perform essential job functions.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be able to drive and have a valid Class D driver’s license and maintain it as a condition of continued employment.
- Must have ability to operate tire machine and engine analyzer.
- Must provide a complete set of own hand tools.
- Must pass a background and driver’s license check as well as a physical exam, including a drug screen.
- May be required to work long hours (overtime) in emergencies such as storms, debris removal, clearing roadways, and snow and ice removal.
- May be required to work after hours for special events.
- Works outside exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
- Frequently exposed to dust and occasionally to dampness and unsanitary conditions.
- Subject to hazards of construction work, equipment, and working around traffic.
- Subject to excessive noise from equipment.
- Subject to heavy lifting, as much as 50 lbs. at a distance of four feet from the ground and on occasion up to 100 lbs.
- Subject to excessive reaching, pulling, pushing, and feeling.
- Requires the ability to ascend and descend ladders, structures, and equipment.
- Subject to working in confined spaces.
- Requires crawling, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching.
- Requires sitting, or standing for long periods and extensive walking.
- Must wear all safety equipment following safety regulations.
- Subject to handling and breathing irritating substances.
