POLICE DEPARTMENT SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD
$16.39 per hour —
Part‑Time Position
- Ensure the safe crossing of school children traveling to and from school at assigned crosswalk locations.
- Apply appropriate knowledge of traffic laws and use clear, proper traffic control signals to manage pedestrians and vehicular traffic within designated school crossing zones.
- Set up and shut down school crossing zones by activating/deactivating school zone lights and placing or removing traffic warning cones.
- Report any issues, concerns, or relevant information related to the assigned school crossing zone.
- Assist in regulating traffic flow during school arrival and dismissal times.
- Comply with all city and departmental policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must have no criminal record.
- Ability to interact effectively, courteously, and professionally with children, coworkers, school staff, and the general public.
- Serve as a visible, uniformed presence to control pedestrian and vehicular traffic and promote a safe environment for school children.
- Ability to commit to a specific assigned post for the duration of the school year and provide personal transportation to and from the assigned location.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and exercise sound judgment when assessing traffic flow.
- Must have a valid Tennessee Driver's License.
- Must pass a background screen, driver’s license verification and physical exam, including a drug test.
- Willing and able to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
- Will be working in a non‑smoking environment.
- Residency in Bartlett preferred but not required.
