Courtroom Specialist - Criminal Customer Service 32-2026 (Bartow)

Join a team of dedicated professionals in the Polk County Clerk of Courts office. Essential Attributes

Essential Tasks
  • Focus on Circuit Criminal, County Criminal, and Civil Traffic cases.
  • Attend court hearings and accurately transcribe judicial rulings into minutes.
  • Support judges, attorneys, and other agencies, including preparing evidence lists, court notices, orders, directions, judgments, and other documents; administer oaths; distribute copies.
  • Perform record searches in CCIS and reinstate driver’s licenses per criminal and traffic case procedures.
  • Process subpoenas, notices, and driver’s license suspensions according to procedure.
  • Accurately prepare documents before court and perform follow‑up support duties.
  • Adapt work hours to court schedule, arriving early or staying late as required.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.
  • Learn and understand multiple applications related to the position.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information acquired in the position.
  • Perform other related work as required or assigned.
Minimum Skills / Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Bi‑lingual applicants are encouraged to apply.
  • Collaborate effectively with departmental teams and external agencies to prioritize workflows and meet deadlines.
  • Read, interpret, and follow safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and write routine correspondence and reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Type accurately at 35 wpm.
  • Maintain attention to detail and remain calm in an intense environment.
  • Demonstrate strong professional communication skills in both oral and written English.
  • Perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Rapidly acquire comprehensive knowledge of departmental procedures and workflows; conduct thorough research using resource materials to ensure compliance with clerk policies and Florida Statutes.
  • Adapt to evolving operational requirements by applying Florida Statutes, departmental guidelines, and clerk policies while maintaining high performance.
  • Maintain vigilance and safety awareness in a constant state of alertness.
  • Apply common sense to carry out written or oral instructions.
  • External candidates must be able to pass an NCIC background check, drug screen, and physical exam.
  • This position offers a six‑month training period.
Physical Requirements
  • Evidence of physical, developmental, and mental ability to perform tasks outlined.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands; frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires close, distance, and depth vision; ability to adjust focus.
  • Noise level in work environment is usually moderate.
