The Work You Will DoConstruction Tech Support Coordinator – District One/Construction. This position enhances the safety of the traveling public through performance of plan reviews, field reviews, and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) expertise. Duties include coordinating the Construction Work Program, ensuring proper contract administration, conducting quality assurance field reviews, performing periodic inspections, advising project administrators, providing comments on design, coordinating resolution of construction issues, maintaining tracking systems for Premium Costs and Errors & Omissions, developing tentative construction schedules, responding to bidders’ questions, representing the office on committees, assisting with scheduling DRB hearings, reviewing documents for approval, determining federal aid participation, and answering public inquiries.
TheSpecific Responsibilities
- Assist the District Construction Services Engineer by coordinating the Construction Work Program and ensuring proper contract administration of all construction activities as required by the District Construction Office.
- Conduct quality assurance field reviews of construction projects to ensure conformity with plans and specifications.
- Perform periodic inspections (day and night) on a representative number of projects.
- Advise project administrators of necessary revisions to correct deficiencies.
- Conduct quality assurance field reviews of inspection staff using QA/QC guides.
- Attend design scoping, phase reviews, utility coordination, and other meetings focusing on Temporary Traffic Control Plans (TTCP) and maintenance of traffic implementation.
- Provide comments at all design phases concerning biddability, construability, and maintenance of traffic.
- Coordinate the resolution of construction issues with the Engineer of Record and Design Project Manager and escalates unresolved issues as needed.
- Maintain a tracking system to assign responsibility for Premium Costs and Errors & Omissions.
- Develop tentative construction schedules recognizing overlapping activities to determine contract time needed and identify critical milestones.
- Compute allowable contract time and include special provisions for the Production division.
- Respond to all bidders’ questions via the Central Office of Construction webpage and post answers on the webpage within prescribed deadlines.
- Represent the District Construction Office on CEI and Design Build Technical Review Committees and assist with RFP development.
- Assist operation centers and CCEI’s in scheduling DRB hearings and preparing position papers for construction disputes.
- Assist in selecting DRB members for applicable contracts.
- Review and recommend approval/disapproval of documents such as engineering analysis reports and disposition of defective materials.
- Provide determination of federal aid participation for supplemental agreements and other contractual changes.
- Answer public questions regarding projects under construction.
- High school diploma or equivalent (or 2 years experience in a related field).
- Valid Class E driver’s license.
- Knowledge of road and bridge construction, FDOT Standard Specifications, CPAM, project engineering, scheduling, and management.
- Skilled in computer software applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and contracts.
- Ability to organize and maintain files.
- Ability to read and interpret roadway and traffic design standards.
- Ability to organize, plan, and conduct meetings.
- Valid Class E driver's license with an acceptable driving record (no 3 or more moving violations in past 3 years, no 2 convictions of reckless driving, no suspension or revocation for moving violations in past 3 years, and no suspension or revocation for DUI in past 4 years).
