Job Summary
This position is responsible for following approved procedures for start‑up, shutdown, normal operations, monitoring, servicing, and maintenance of all equipment systems at the Combustion Turbine facility. The incumbent must be familiar with emergency procedures during abnormal operation, adhere to all location safety procedures including red tagging and PPE, perform maintenance, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate plant equipment, monitor equipment performance through testing and analysis, report variances, and manage inventory duties.
A Journeyman Mechanical skill is required; competency in Electrical, I&C, and operations disciplines is preferred.
- Operations, maintenance, and balance of plant functions at the Combustion Turbine facility.
- Perform planned and unplanned maintenance on substation equipment.
- Follow Lock‑Out‑Tag‑Out procedures on gas turbines, pumps, valves, and high‑voltage equipment.
- Maintain Environmental, Health & Safety records, spreadsheets, and documents.
- Repair prime movers and balance of plant equipment.
- Read and understand technical OEM manuals, recommendations, and warranty agreements.
- Support and follow safety guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Operate and monitor combustion turbine plant equipment during normal operations, testing, and emergency events.
- Utilize general mechanical and electrical skills to troubleshoot, maintain, and operate a combustion turbine site.
- Generate spare parts lists, maintain min/max levels, and revise inventory lists.
- Read and understand technical mechanical, civil, and electrical drawings.
- Perform high‑voltage switching.
- 2‑year college degree or technical school certificate, or 2+ years of related experience, combustion turbine industry training, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Journeyman Mechanical skill.
- Successful completion of EEI’s Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) at I&C level.
- Ability to work around equipment that generates electromagnetic fields (EMF).
- Weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job.
Work performed onsite at a company facility; must reside within one hour of the assigned location. Frequent overtime, including weekends and holidays, with short‑notice availability for planned, unplanned, or emergency site events. Rotating shifts. Ability to work at heights, from suspended platforms, and in confined spaces. Exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, humidity, and electromagnetic fields. Willingness to travel approximately 5‑10% for training and assistance to other Duke Energy Carolinas Combustion Turbine sites.
DesiredQualifications
- Competent (progression level) in Electrical or I&C and operations disciplines.
- Experience with digital control systems (Mark 6/Ovation, T‑3000, Toshiba) and programmable logic controllers.
- Additional experience with combustion turbine technology.
- Experience with large heavy gas turbine supplier technologies.
- High‑voltage and substation maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with mechanical and electronic field‑testing equipment.
- Proficiency with computers, software applications, and plant work‑management systems such as Microsoft Office and Maximo.
- Team‑oriented environment skills and demonstrated team interface abilities.
Approximately 5‑15% travel.
