The Work You Will Do

Inspector III (District 1 / Operations / Bartow Operations Center)

This position will analyze complex plans and perform independent complex technical assignments to accomplish inspection and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way. Verify that work is performed according to all State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statutes, rules. Performs approved testing techniques through the use of hand tools, gauges and/or instruments to ensure materials used conform to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements.

Use various engineering tools, equipment, instruments and computers for performing technical engineering tasks, problem solving and record keeping. Provide information to consulting engineers, developers, architects, and permit applicants as needed. Prepares all documentation in order to validate payments to roadway contractors.

Annual Salary Range

$45,801.77 - $59,272.88

Your Specific Responsibilities

Analyze complex plans and perform independent complex technical assignments to accomplish inspection and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way. Verify that work is performed according to all State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statutes, rules. Performs approved testing techniques through the use of hand tools, gauges and/or instruments to ensure materials used conform to FDOT requirements.

Use various engineering tools, equipment, instruments and computers for performing technical engineering tasks, problem solving and record keeping. Provide information to consulting engineers, developers, architects, and permit applicants as needed. Prepares all documentation in order to validate payments to roadway contractors.

Perform interpretation of documents related to authorized Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) device usage, installation/placement, and materials to ensure safe work zones. Reviews work site activities for conformity to safety regulations and takes corrective measures when deficiencies are noted.

Conducts surveys of signs, guardrail, and attenuators as required by procedures. Provides survey of roadway items to be inventoried for Roadway Characteristics Inventory (RCI). Fills out data coding sheet and enters roadway data into computer data base as needed. Gathers data and performs preliminary reviews for maintenance contract needs. Assists in the preparation of maintenance contracts. Prepares specifications as needed for use in maintenance contracts.

Conducts/attends pre-work conferences on maintenance contracts and attends/conducts meetings with contractors/utility owners/permitees throughout life of projects as assigned. Acts as a representative of the Department on all issues related to contracts and permits. Issues work…
