Sr. Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Bartow, Florida. This contract position offers the opportunity to contribute to financial operations within a governmental organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance across various accounting functions. The role involves both independent tasks and collaboration with key finance personnel to support the city's financial objectives.

Responsibilities:

- Perform detailed reconciliations for pooled cash accounts, including allocations across multiple funds.

- Prepare and review weekly revenue reconciliations to ensure accuracy in reporting.

- Manage fixed asset reconciliations, ensuring timely completion and proper documentation.

- Process complex payroll journal entries, particularly following a recent payroll system transition.

- Reconcile pension contributions to payroll records, maintaining compliance and accuracy.

- Collaborate closely with the Assistant Finance Director on financial reporting and analysis.

- Compile trial balances and coordinate with external entities for financial statement preparation.

- Utilize Excel to create and maintain templates for reconciliation processes.

- Conduct balance sheet and bank account reconciliations, ensuring proper documentation and resolution of discrepancies.

- Support month-end close procedures, including general ledger reviews and adjustments. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.

- At least 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in government or public sector roles.

- Proficiency in balance sheet account reconciliations and bank reconciliations.

- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to create and utilize complex templates.

- Familiarity with accounting software such as Tyler In-Code or similar systems.

- Strong knowledge of general ledger processes and journal entries.

- Experience with payroll processing and pension contribution reconciliation.

- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members.
