Description

This is work providing social services to assist in rehabilitation of juvenile law offenders in custody or on probation. Incumbents make recommendations for actions involving formulation of rehabilitation plan and treatment of offender, including conditional release and education and employment stipulations. The occupation will be responsible for coordinating work and supervising employees, assigning work, reviewing progress and assessing performance. Incumbent(s) supervise employees and spend the majority of time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing employees’ work.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Case Management/Reviews – Screening & Intake Process; assign tasks to staff based on inquiries from youth, family, victims, law enforcement, the courts, or department staff; assign cases to staff when referrals are received by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (FDJJ); conduct case reviews to ensure home and school visits are integral for gathering information and engaging the family; initiate contact with youth, family, victim and law enforcement regarding case handling and disposition;

    use Motivational Interviewing to engage the youth, family and staff to determine needs; review cases within policy timelines to ensure collateral information is gathered and needs addressed; facilitate the completion of assessments and referrals for services as needed; formulate case management strategies; ensure service referrals and follow-up actions; approve supervision and treatment recommendations to the State Attorney and other judicial partners;

    confirm safety plans with youth and family; review/approve screening instruments and reports.
  • Case Management/Reviews Court Process – Act as DJJ representative during court hearings; ensure department recommendations are based on information gathered; certify case files reflect current histories and reports; provide policy information to staff responsible for detention screening and court hearings; monitor court dockets and inform all parties; communicate outcomes of court proceedings to affected parties; submit requests to Chief Probation Officer or designee for GC assistance.
  • Case Management/Reviews Supervision Processes – conduct case reviews to certify staff completed required instruments; ensure case plans are developed with youth/family input and align with instruments; certify face-to-face contacts in multiple settings; verify post-court contacts; maintain departmental adherence; assist youth/family in obtaining mental health, substance abuse evaluations, and arranging testing and treatment as needed; follow up with providers; verify access to community resources;

    coordinate transportation as needed; manage transition and exit planning; provide post-department support.
  • Records Management – conduct JJIS case reviews; ensure data accuracy and timely entries; review referral history for statistics; maintain youth photos in JJIS; ensure required forms are uploaded; maintain JJIS Case Notebook Module; provide provider contact information; coordinate information sharing with schools, law enforcement, care providers, and other agencies; contribute to grant proposals and community resource planning; cultivate restorative justice service sites.
