Job Summary

This is a highly technical position responsible for specialized computer applications in support of the police department’s goals and objectives. The role manages and supports technology‑related equipment and systems, including Axon body‑worn cameras, in‑car camera systems, and evidence‑management platforms used in law‑enforcement activities. Work activities involve contact with the public, City officials, and employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the IT Department to plan and organize data‑systems management functions supporting the department’s mission.
  • Learn and support the department’s computer applications, understanding interrelationships and dependencies, and work with the IT Department as needed.
  • Work with vendors to maintain and support designated applications, perform or install upgrades, and coordinate implementation and training for new features.
  • Identify and consider both business and technical needs of customers to provide quality solutions that meet user needs and align with the department mission.
  • Configure assigned computer applications to achieve desired results.
  • Determine facility, equipment, and supply requirements for data‑systems activities to facilitate analysis, reporting, forecasting, and record maintenance.
  • Maintain necessary records and prepare reports and documentation.
  • Develop relationships with business units, external consultants, and vendors as directed by management.
  • Interpret laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures affecting the organizational mission.
  • Identify project requirements, determine appropriate courses of action, and organize data to support policies and ordinances.
  • Perform high‑level troubleshooting of technical issues related to assigned application functionality.
  • Track and follow assigned program or computer application issues up to resolution, communicating with all stakeholders.
  • Research and develop computerized solutions to business and operating needs of public‑safety departments using database and word‑processing systems.
  • Assist the IT Department in implementing, supporting, and maintaining new computer software packages.
  • Manage application projects of simple to moderate complexity, including sub‑components of larger projects.
  • Test, analyze, and maintain assigned computer applications such as Axon and Flock.
  • Work alternate hours as necessary for efficient operation of the department.
  • Provide 24/7 availability in support of mission‑critical applications.
  • Oversee inventory of body‑worn cameras, in‑car video systems, TASERs, signal devices, VR equipment, and related accessories.
  • Deliver onboarding and certification training for new users of Axon products and serve as a certified TASER instructor for additional training.
  • Review monthly footage and public evidence to ensure operational integrity, identify and secure sensitive content, and enforce retention policies.
  • Administer and optimize Axon’s auto‑tagging features and review audit trails to support investigations.
  • Manage mobile devices and Axon modem devices, including assignment, configuration, secure wiping, and SIM card coordination.
  • Validate monthly wireless bills for cost management and support logistics for fleet vehicles.
  • Act as a backup administrator for the Flock License Plate Reader system.
  • Serve on the Incident Management Team, providing Axon‑related equipment and technical assistance during critical incidents.
  • Formulate policies and maintain documentation of actions for the department.
  • Develop troubleshooting procedures and a knowledge base to enhance support.
  • Provide individualized training to users on computer‑based information retrieval and processing.
  • Attend meetings and visit job sites beyond the primary location as required.
  • Perform related work as assigned.
